Trains Edit

A figure opens Elizabeth’s door.  She notices is creak open and reaches for her gun.  She swings it towards her screen door as the figure calls out

“Jesus, Elizabeth”

Elizabeth: Donnie, you scared me

Donnie: What’s wrong?  You seem tense?

Elizabeth: That man from the Yard, whatever his name was… he took Eli at gunpoint. Stole supplies

Donnie looks at Maine

Maine: Don’t look at me, man.  That’s not my home anymore

Donnie: Where did they go?  I’ll get them

Elizabeth: I don’t know.  He said they were getting out of Apex

Donnie: I’ll bring him back

Donnie turns and walks out of the door.  To Elizabeth’s left, the burnt figure of Luka stirs and begins to sit up.  Maine’s hand grips the table he’s sitting on tightly.  Is Luka alive or did he turn is the question running through both his and Elizabeth’s mind.  He coughs and yells in pain

Luka: Fuck.  My arm fucking hurts

Elizabeth runs to his side and brings acetaminophen tablets.  Maine loosens his grip on the table.  Elsewhere, on the way to Jenny’s house,  Aaron and Taylor lead Nils and Izabel while Evan keeps watch at the gate

Aaron: How do you both know each other?

Nils: Same group.  Met soon into the outbreak

Izabel: We’ve been some of Gregory’s top officers until recently

Taylor: What happened recently?

Nils: He killed his own followers

Aaron: Shit.  I heard about that.  It’s fucked

Izabel: We decided to leave after that

Taylor: So… are you guys like a couple or something?

Nils: What makes you say that?

Taylor: Just asking.  It’ll help with housing if you’re allowed to stay

She knocks on Jenny’s door

Taylor: More travelers making their way to Apex, Jenny

Jenny: People are coming in like a flood.

The two at her door give her a funny look

Jenny: It’s a good thing.  Well come on in out of the cold.  Come, sit, we’ll talk

Leo drives down the road.  It has been empty for quite some time.  Phillip sits next to him while Dimitri, Miranda and Nathan ride in the back.  Phillip looks to Leo

Phillip: Something wrong?  You look tense

Leo: Just… tired is all.  I’m getting older by the minute and I’m tired.

Phillip: I understand what that’s like

Leo: Believe me, I’ve probably got at least 10 years on you?

Phillip: I’m 45.  I’m not that young

Leo: Okay, I’ve got seven years on you.  But if the calendar we have is correct, I should be turning 53 any day now.  September 17th.

Phillip: You’re older than you look.  I bet if you shaved, you’d look younger

Leo: Looking older would be better.  Might appear that I have more experience.  That I have control of my shit

Phillip: You don’t exactly have control

Leo: What do you mean?

Phillip: C’mon.  I saw your reaction to Meredith’s death.  You lost it for a second

Leo: I’ve known her since before the outbreak.  She was my best friend’s younger cousin growing up.  And I mean way younger.  By the time I graduated high school, she was graduating out of diapers.  I watched her grow up.  I recommended her to my boss when she applied for her first job out of college in Virginia.  Watching her die… it was like another part of me died.  My parents passed a long time ago.  My wife went out soon before the outbreak.  It was cancer that took her.  My son… well I haven’t heard from him since around day five when the phone lines went dark.  He’s down South in college.  University of Florida

Dimitri: What’s his name?

Leo: Huh?

Dimitri: Your son?  What’s his name?

Leo: Oh.  Jackson Ronald Henderson.  He goes by Jax.  I hope he one day comes knocking on the gates.  I’ve had dreams he’d return, but I always wake up and he’s not here.

Leo continues to drive and comes up to a curve.  He wipes a tear from his eye.  As he turns, he is instantly met with a herd of walkers and hits one almost instantaneously.  It frightens everyone in the car.  It’s too thick of a herd for the cars to get through.  Leo pushes on for a few more yards and yells at everyone to get out.  Leo grabs his rifle and steps out.  He smacks a walker in the head that gets too close and shoots one a bit farther

Nathan: Miranda and I will protect behind while you all clear a path ahead so we can leave

Doug stops his truck behind Leo’s van and out steps Sebastián, David, Jackson and Olivia.  They begin to fire upon the dead that surround them.  A few climb under the cars.  Doug opens his car door and steps out

Doug: They’re coming from the woods

He fires into the trees and hits one.  A walker underneath his car grabs his ankle and pulls.  Doug slips and falls onto the pavement.  The walker takes a bite out of his ankles and Doug screams

Jackson: Help Doug!

Jackson and Olivia turn to help Doug.  Olivia pulls him out while Jackson puts the biter down

Doug: Fuck, man.  I’m fucked.  I’m…. I’m a goner

Olivia: It’s gonna be alright

Doug: Fuck no it isn’t.  You can’t fix this

Doug stands up and shambles over behind the cars.  Meanwhile, David shoots two walkers as a third gets onto him.  He tries to block it off, but it pushes him down.  David lands awkwardly, injuring his elbow.  Sebastián immediately puts the walker down and helps David stand up.  They both turn to see Doug firing into the woods.  He shambles off firing every bullet he has

Doug: Go!  Get in the cars!  Keys are in the ignition!  Get the hell out of here I’ll be fine!

Miranda: Doug!

Doug: Go!

He keeps firing as Leo gets in his truck and drives off with Phillip, Nathan, Dimitri and Miranda.  Sebastián helps David get in the back of the truck as Olivia starts it up.  Jackson hops into the passenger seat.   The group drives off

Gregory fires on another walker that steps too close

Gregory: Now…. what the fuck happened here?

Max: The dead showed up.  Got Anthony at least.  And James.  He died inside

Brooks: Who the fuck is James?

Max: He’s one of your soldiers

Brooks: He didn’t join us.  He’s no soldier

Gregory: Where is Lewis?

Max: I don’t know.  It got crazy and several people disappeared.  He, Julian, Annabelle, Henrietta… I don’t know who else.  Only a few died, Anthony being one

Rick Murphy steps out of the truck and looks at the group

Rick: Gregory.  Where’s Cosmo?

Gregory: Rick… no one returned from that group.  I don’t think Cosmo made it

Rick: >visibly shaken< No… no it can’t be.  He can’t be dead

Lottie: We lost a lot, Rick.  Spencer, Cam, Taz, Kevin.  It’s possible we lost Cosmo, too

Rick drops to the ground and stares into space.  Gregory looks at him, then back up at Arrowhead and Fig

Gregory: Where’s Nils?  Izabel?

Arrowhead: Nils had to piss.  Didn’t want Fig to get home late so he could get help

Fig: I’m fine I just need rest

Gregory ponders for a second, before turning to anger

Gregory: Mother fucker

Arrowhead: What?

Gregory: You dumbass!  They left!

Brooks: What do you mean?

Gregory: They’re gone!  They fled

Max: Why would they do that?

Gregory: They’re fucking pussies, that’s why.  Motherfucking… cunts!  God dammit!

Gregory storms off to his tent

Jane: He didn’t have to say that

Brooks: >scoffing< Nobody gives a shit, Jane.

Brooks walks off into Spencer’s tent.  He opens it and begins to clear through his stuff.  He pulls out a picture from a drawer.  There are five figure dressed in graduation gowns.  It’s a few years old.  Brooks stands next to Spencer, who holds Lottie in a loving position.  Two others have their faces crossed out in red expo marker.  One is Liam, and the other is Liam’s twin sister, Emily.  She died two weeks into the outbreak.  Brooks wipes a tear as he draws a red ‘X’ across Spencer’s face in Expo marker.  The door swings open and Lottie walks in.  She notices something in Brooks’ hand

Lottie: What do you have there?

Brooks shows her the picture with a fresh X mark on it.  She takes it from him and studies it before wiping the picture clean.

Lottie: You don’t need the ‘X’ marks.  It’s easier to look at if you keep it clean

She looks at Spencer and wipes a few tears from her eyes.  She falls into Brooks’ arms, crying

Brooks: He still loved you, Lottie.  I know you split after high school, but he loved you

Lottie: I somehow knew that, Geoff

Brooks: Please don’t call me that

Lottie pulls back

Brooks: I hated that name.  Geoffrey Jonathan Brooks Junior.  Couldn’t stand it.  I’m Brooks, now and forever

Lottie: Fine.  Brooks.  I somehow knew he still loved me

Brooks: Did… did you still love him

Lottie: Of course.  But in this world it was not safe.  I mean, after we lost Emily, I knew it would not work.  Not until we were truly safe.

Peanut: That’s it, you son of a bitch.  Keep walking

Eli: What exactly are you gonna do with me?

Peanut: I don’t know yet.  Might kill you.  Might just injure you badly.  But I’m getting a fucking car and getting the hell out of here

Eli: You’re going the wrong way then.  The gate’s the other way

Peanut:  If I try and take the gate, your people will see me leaving.  Then we’ll have issues

Eli: >laughing< Well you ain’t getting out this way, buddy.  ‘Less you want to climb a wall

Peanut: I’ll figure it out

Eli: Think fast.  You’re here

Peanut looks up at the wall and sighs

Peanut: I can make it

Eli: Wait.  Before you leave, let me know one thing

Peanut: Depends

Eli: What is your name?

Peanut: You’re allowed to know that.  It’s David.  They called me Peanut when I was younger because I ate a lot of peanut butter.  No crazy story behind it.  It stuck when I was arrested for assault and battery.  When Gregory freed us, I just said my name was Peanut.  I was in there with Fig, Arrowhead, Johnny, Miguelito, Grease.  All of them.  Gregory freed us and we kept our names.  It’s not who we were.  It’s who we became, though.  Arrowhead went in Peter Martin and came out Arrowhead.  Fig went in Tony King and came out Fig.  Grease went in as Bruce Olson and came out Grease.  I went in as David Mangini, and came out Peanut.  It’s just who we are now.  You’re Eli…

Eli: Wilson

Peanut: You’re Eli Wilson.  Who knows, maybe you survive long enough to become someone else.  You might need to become someone else someday.  I must be going now.  Please do not follow

Eli: I might see you again, Peanut

Peanut: It’s very possible.  If we return with a vengeance, I will try not to shoot at you

Eli: Nor I you.  Take care

Peanut climbs over the wall.  Once over, he tosses the pistol over the wall.  Eli catches it, chuckles to himself and walks away.  Peanut runs towards the trucks from the fight.  He sneaks into one and starts it before driving off.  Inside his house, Eli returns to Oliver finds Jenny and two new people standing with his short roommate.

Oliver: Oh, and this is my housemate, Eli.  Eli, this is Nils and Izabel

Jenny: They’re gonna be staying here

She leans in to whisper to him

Jenny: >whispering< Be careful.  They’re from the Yard.  Lock your doors for a while

She backs up and Eli introduces himself to the pair

Jenny: I best be off.  I have to meet with Tess at the laundromat

She walks out of Oliver and Eli’s house as Izabel and Nils move what little they have into their new home.  Inside Elizabeth’s office, Will Knight finally wakes up and looks at his savior.  Otis and Scott stand on the side drinking coffee

Maine: Will?  You okay?

Will: I feel… better.  When did you get here?

Maine: Brooks shot me.  They saved me

Otis: You’ve been out for a while, friend

Will: Did we win?

Scott: Hell no.  You got your asses handed to you

Otis: We got shat on too, Scott

Scott: Not as bad as they did

Inside the Yard, Amin and Grease struggle to move bodies with the others into a large pile to burn.  Marcellus carried one all by himself with ease,  In the Yard infirmary, Jane checks up on Rick and the others.  Her next patient is Fig.  His forehead is warm, but he has no bite

Jane: You’re positively warm, Fig.  What happened?

He lifts his shirt to reveal where he was shot.  She searches him, but finds no exit wound. She gasps

Fig: Can you take it out?

Jane: I… I am afraid I cannot.  Julian could have, maybe, but I don’t have enough training

Fig: So what you’re saying is…

Jane: It’s only a matter of time before it kills you to infection or whatever organ it hit.  I’m not a surgeon

Fig: How long?

Jane: A day, maybe two?

Fig: Someone will put me down, right?

Jane: I’ll make sure of it

Inside Apex, Kendall sits in the laundromat with Tess and Niklas.  She reads the same magazine for the sixth time

Tess: You’ve read that already.  I’ve seen you read it

Kendall: No news is better than good news.  Isn’t that what they say?

Niklas: They didn’t think about after an apocalypse though.  Good news would definitely be better.  The government finding a cure, ready to hand it out.  My family, still alive.  I’d always take good news over no news

Tess: What about bad news?

Niklas: The government can’t fix it?  We’re on our own?  My parents are dead?  Still better than no news.  It’s sad, but at least there’s some sort of closure

Todd relieves Dex of guard duty.  Annie walks up underneath the guard tower

Annie: Hey!

Todd: Yes?

Annie: You’re coming for dinner, right?

Todd: Sure.  I don’t see why not

He looks outside and sees two figures making their way towards Apex

Todd: Hey!  The gate.  There’s two more

Annie helps Evan and Octavio open the gate as the figure approach

Evan: Put your weapons down.  Who are you?

Lewis: I’m Lewis Edwards and this is Julian Watts

Julian: We mean no harm

Annie: Where did you come from?

Lewis: We’re from the Yard.  We left after releasing walkers into the compound

Evan: Why’d you leave?

Julian: We heard a friend of ours was killed by one of our own when he found this place.  We left because that’s not what we’re about

Todd: Let them in, Evan.  Can you take them to Jenny?

Octavio: She’s in the laundromat

Todd: Then bring them to the laundromat

The pair walk in

Todd: I swear.  How many from the Yard are gonna come here today?  It’s crazy

Leo and his group arrive at a train station.  There’s a clock on the wall, stopped at 3:34.  PM, he assumes, but he’s not certain.  The wall says something along the lines of WIL---- but is covered in greens or falling apart.  Everyone steps out of the cars and walks inside.  They find bags strewn everywhere.  There is a train still in the station, but the group avoids it

Dimitri: I don’t like the looks of this place

Nathan: It give me the willies

Jackson: I second that.  Freaky

Leo: Everything is freaky nowadays

The group hears a loud clamor up a set of stairs as a paint can rolls down it.  Everyone aims their gun in that direction

Leo: You’re surrounded.  Come out slowly

A voice hollers back

“I’m not alone”

Phillip: We’re not either, hun.  Come out.  We won’t shoot at you unless you fire first

The figure climbs out.  She’s a beautiful young girl, seemingly in her mid twenties.  She wears jeans and a jacket with her hair tied back.  She holds a G19 in her right hand, but holds it up with her empty hand, surrendering to the group

Leo: What’s your name, hun?

Ciara: Ciara Nash

Phillip: Where are the other people you’re with?

Ciara: Around.  They won’t fire unless fired upon.  I promise

Miranda: I love your jacket

Ciara: Thanks

Jackson: Where you from, hun?

Ciara: I’m not at liberty to say

Sebastián: When we meet your friends, will you be able to tell us?

Ciara: Depends how much they like you.  And if we can know where you’re from

Phillip looks to Leo

Phillip: Can we meet the others?

Ciara sighs

Ciara: Chester, Barney, Vazquez.  You can come out now
